# startracking Ascot Friday December 18th
Going @Ascot for the meeting tomorrow Soft (Good to Soft in places) GS: C:6.3 H:5.9 on Thursday at 8:30 TurfTrax @TurfTrax
Good Friday card at Ascot with plenty to keep an eye on.
12.50 Competitive maiden hurdle over 2m6f. May need to watch it half a dozen times as plenty of prospective future winners, especially when they go chasing. Personal preference today for He’s a Charmer as the race conditions are right for his stage of career, others have issues such as, on hurdling debut, up in grade, trained by Henderson/Nicholls etc. etc. and of course it’s Fry and Fehily! Johnson riding for Tizzard on Irish PtP winner Van Halen caught the eye.
1.20 Awkward Novices handicap chase. Ink Master was on my Master List @49SimpleSimonSays.. and chasing should be his bag. Interested in Tizzards Dusky Lark as I didn’t think they were too busy on him first time up.
1.55 Will be disappointed if Yanworth is beaten for two reasons. Firstly, a British trained horse who could shake up Team Mullins in the Supreme and secondly I stole some Even money on Tuesday!
2.30 I’m really strong on Thomas Brown as I think he has class. Didn’t touch a twig on debut over fences over C&D and I think he could be a real player in the JLT but I think Harry Fry thinks 3m+ could bring further improvement and is eyeing up the RSA. Would have put him up as a bet but 6/4 I too short with Le Mercurey (another on my Master List @49SimpleSimonSays..) and the rest.
3.05 Fascinating contest. C3 2m6f Conditional jockeys handicap hurdle. As much interest in the riders as the horses and the follow up, as the winner won’t get a penalty!
Duke des Champs, looked a chaser to me when making hard work of winning at Market Rasen. 128 opening mark.
Woodford Island – tried the brave man’s route up the inside and finished second. Up 5lbs.
Pithivier – was too classy for his Southwell opponents last time but made a real Horlicks of the last. Up 15lbs!
Shadarpour – Split UknowwhatImeanharry and Scoop the Pot (#startracking) in that hot Cheltenham conditionals handicap. Up 6lbs.
Riders – Great to see Lizzie Kelly back in the saddle. Jamie Bargary, Will Featherstone, Patrick Cowley are all on the up attached to big yards. Conor Smith is following Cairen Gethings up the Hobbs ladder and as that trainer has a penchant for these events and winning again within 14 days young Mr Smith needs monitoring. However they could all be eclipsed by young Jack Kennedy, the latest Irish sensation who at just 16 has ridden winners on the flat as well and for loads of big yards especially Gordon Elliott.
However at 9/1 (Skybet) I’m putting up Shardarpour as a one star* each way selection
3.40 Wow! A very hot Listed bumper. A two page notebook job. Sneaky feeling for Burlington Bert.
“Burlington Bert’s (3.40) has been off since winning a Warwick bumper in May but the form of that race has worked out alright and this is a horse who I think has quite a bright future. He came in a bit later than many of mine but his recent work has been good, he’s done plenty and he’s in good shape for this. He is potentially one of the nicest youngsters I’ve got and I wouldn’t be running him in this if I didn’t think he was good enough to win.” Warren Greatrex on Oddschecker Thurs. # startracking Runners Thurs. Dec. 17th
SOLOMN GRUNDY Towcester 2.40 Non Runner had been backed from 7/1 to 9/2 prior to being taken out!
A PLEIN TEMPS Taunton 3.20 2nd Put up as a two star selection at 11/4, he was returned 13/8 favourite. Right price, wrong result. For this 2m 7f C4 novice hurdle they went a steady pace in the heavy ground. The selection was always prominent on the inside but at times looked a little green running about a bit and he guessed at one in the back straight but turning for home four in it and he had every chance but just didn’t see it out as well as the winner. Definite work in progress as a 3m chaser and still some growing up to do. He will improve for the run and better ground may help. He goes in the tracker. Could finish up with the whole of Harry Fry’s yard in the tracker come season end!!
# startracking news Friday December 18th
Cancelled @ClonmelR meeting will be rescheduled on Tues 22nd Dec. The Kerry Group Stayers Nov Hdle will be @Fairyhouse on Sat 19th.
“A horse to keep an eye out for during the Christmas period is Bandsman who has been showing all the right signs at home. A young horse by Bandmaster, he should be seen out in a bumper during the next couple of weeks and whilst his sire is not perhaps the most fashionable, he may surprise a few.
It was brilliant to get a winner at Cheltenham last week, with North Hill Harvey winning nicely for the Widdowsons and Kelvin-Hughes’. They had had a great couple of days as Born Survivor had also made an impressive winning debut at Warwick, and it’s nice to see them getting rewarded for the investment they make and the support they show not only the Lodge Hill team but the wider National Hunt industry.
