#startracking Monday January 18th 6.30pm
Fair to say I’m not the happiest bunny on earth at the moment!! Most of the reasons can be found in #startracking Weekend Results! Harry Fry’s string have a cold, Dan Skelton’s gone cold and Paul Carberry misses Cheltenham. Add to that Norwich lost 3-0 and Chelsea put me out of the Paddy Power Last Man Standing at the first hurdle! Happy Days!!
Cheered myself up looking at the entries for Leopardstown on Sunday Feb. 6th including Irish Gold Cup, Deloitte Novice Hurdle, Flo Gas Novice Chase and a 4yo trial. Cracking!! Prices are already up for Gold Cup and now “Paddy Power Racing @pphorseracing · 5pm Monday #DeloitteNoviceHurdle 7-4 #Yorkhill, 15-8 Tombstone, 6 Petit Mouchoir, LongDog,7 ConeyIsland,12 Supasundae,14b @irishracing @GetYourTipsOut”.
This cheered me up as well “Brian Toomey, jockey who ‘died’ for 6 seconds after a fall before remarkable comeback, to become assistant trainer to Dr Richard Newland”.
#startracking Weeks Review Jan. 12th-17th
Reasonably uninspiring as this weekend they slogged their way round Warwick not Chepstow! Congratulations to Kerry Lee, she certainly has her string ready to go. What is it with the girls and heavy ground, staying chasers? Think Venetia Williams, Emma Lavelle, Rebecca Curtis, Sue Smith etc. etc.
Highlight of the week was probably Ruby Walsh’s outstanding display of horsemanship on the equally amazing Killultagh Vic. Mullins continues to rule the roost with an excellent display of fencing from Black Hercules, who I think is destined for the 4m NH chase, and a 1-2 in Warwick’s Neptune Trial with Thomas Hobson and Open Eagle who probably won’t be more than handicappers at Cheltenham. Sempre Medici hacked up at Naas and will be Faugheens understudy in the Champion Hurdle. Roi des Francs beat Pont Alexandre and I expect the former to go in the 4m NH chase and the latter to run in the RSA.
The success of Aspen Colorado in the Leopardstown bumper and now as short as 10/1 for the Cheltenham race suggests the career of Joseph O’Brien will need to be closely monitored. They may be running in Aiden’s name but they are being trained by Joseph at their old yard.
Garde La Victoire, L’Ami Serge both did what they had to do but I can’t see either troubling Douvan.
Sceau Royale (#startracking) did his Triumph hopes no harm with a comfortable win in the Chatteris Fen at Huntingdon.
Tom George could have a useful horse in Battle of Shiloh as could Mrs Harrington in Our Duke.

I’m happy to report that #KillultaghVic seems absolutely fine after his little speed wobble @LeopardstownRC Willie Mullins @WillieMullinsNH · Monday 1pm After the race on Sunday Mullins told Irish Racing.com “That performance was good enough to run in the Arkle but he’s possibly more likely to go for the JLT. We’ll see nearer the time and he’ll get an entry in all three, the Arkle, JLT and RSA – he has that sort of scope. We know he stays but the way he jumps he can come back in trip and if I hadn’t Douvan, I’d probably say Arkle straight away.”
Willie Mullins has an entry in Scotland on Wednesday!!

All options open for Myska– The six-year-old, trained by Willie Mullins, is currently second favourite in the ante-post betting behind her stablemate Limini after maintaining her unblemished record with victory in a Listed heat at Taunton. Limini is also likely to be in action again before March with races such as the Solerina Mares’ Novice Hurdle at Fairyhouse on January 30 and the Weatherbys GSB Jane Seymour Mares’ Novices’ Hurdle at Sandown on February 19 likely to be considered for the pair. “Myska is in really good order. She’s fine after her win in Taunton and she’s now either going to Fairyhouse on the 30th for a Grade Three or to Sandown,” said Steve Massey of owners, the Supreme Horse Racing Club. “Willie’s got Limini as well, so I imagine one will go one way and the other horse will go for the other race.” Racing Post January 18 2016, 10:45 GMT
The seven-year-old Vroum Vroum Mag is unbeaten in six starts over fences in Ireland and was just as impressive when switched back to smaller obstacles at Clonmel last month. Mullins told OLBG: “I’m very keen to bring her over for the OLBG Mares’ Hurdle at Ascot on Saturday. She’s entered in the World Hurdle and the OLBG Mares’ Hurdle at the Festival and Saturday will help us decide which route to take.” Annie Power has not been seen in competitive action this season due to a setback, but is on the road to recovery. “She’s galloping again and progressing nicely, but we have no firm plans as of yet,” said Mullins.
Jacob excited by Triumph hope Sceau Royal-DARYL JACOB rates Sceau Royal as the standard-setter among the home team for the JCB Triumph Hurdle, describing the juvenile as one of the fastest jumpers he has ridden. The jockey, who has struck up a profitable partnership with Sceau Royal’s owners Simon Munir and Isaac Souede, has finished first past the post on all four of his starts on the Alan King-trained four-year-old, although the pair were demoted to second behind Adrien Du Pont at Chepstow in October. Sceau Royal strengthened his Triumph Hurdle credentials with a valid victory over that rival in a Cheltenham trial in December before winning again at Huntingdon last week. “Sceau Royal must be one of the fastest jumpers I’ve ever ridden and he didn’t put a foot wrong when winning the Chatteris Fen Juvenile Hurdle last Friday,” said Jacob, speaking in the Monday Jury in the Racing Post.
“He’s getting more and more professional in his races and he’s the best British horse in the Triumph picture at the moment. There’s a long way to go but I’m very excited by him.” Racing Post Andrew Dietz 10:16AM 18 JAN 2016
