Ffos Las set to race after morning inspection By James Burn 9:28AM 6 FEB 2016

THE biggest meeting of Ffos Las’s season is set to go ahead today after a morning inspection. Clerk of the course Keith Ottesen inspected the track at 9am and gave the fixture the go-ahead, although with more rain forecast he will keep an eye on conditions. Ottesen, who described the ground as heavy, said: “We’re going to kick on and give it a go. We’ll monitor conditions, but there are no more planned inspections. We’ve spoken to trainers and jockeys and have a lot if support so we’re going to move forward.” The last hurdle in the home straight will be omitted, while on the chase course the first, second and fourth fences will not be jumped, meaning the Dribuild Construction West Wales National is down to 12 fences (from 19). Paul Nicholls on Betfair Blog Mind you if the forecast is right they could be swimming at Ffos Las by the time of Semper Invicta’s race.”

#startracking Sunday runners

Naas 2.50        HAYMOUNT Ruby thinks it should win, “Haymount, who runs in the maiden hurdle, has finished second three times, which is frustrating for me as a jockey but even more so for his owners. He has run into some decent sorts, and I don’t think there’s a Mall Dini or an Edwulf in this race.Tomorrow will be Haymount’s day.” Irish Examiner Blog Two star** selection if it is odds against

Musselburgh – GOOD ground!! Fascinating card for Scottish “Cheltenham Trials” day. The only runner with Championship pretensions is OO Seven in the Alf. Bart. Trial. But Nicholls, Pipe and especially Henderson have a bunch of horses on this better ground with handicap marks that need enhancing or protecting.

Nicholls-         Simon Squirrel OR138h needs protecting. Staying on 3rd?

Henderson-    Full Shift OR135ch tricky. Can’t win but could do with 2 or 3lbs? Close up second?

Henderson-    Cardinal Walter OR139h Great mark. Good blowout but unplaced?

Henderson-    Cup Final OR132 To get into the Pertemps Final would need to win!! And then on a great mark. Interesting price for the final, only quoted by Bet365 at 16’s and just 10/1 on the exchanges!! Geraghty said in his ATR blog should also appreciate the ground. He gets race under 10st 4lb in the Pertemps Network Handicap Hurdle, so I won’t be having a big breakfast, but he is a talented individual who I hope can be competitive off his mark of 132.

He hasn’t run since he won a Pertemps qualifier at Sandown in early December last season, so 14 months ago, off a mark of 127, but he stays well and I hope that he can run well after his absence.”

Pipe-               Unanimite OR134 Steps up another 6F+ and would need to go very close to make the final!

#startracking Ante Post Cheltenham

I feel I need to add another two horses to our Cheltenham Festival Ante Post portfolio.

SCEAU ROYAL You al know how much I admire Alan Kings slick jumping juvenile and having receivede the Pricewise stamp of approval midweek he is a one star selection for the Triumph Hurdle at 12/1 general. If Ivanovich Gorbatov happened to have a bad day at Leopardstown this price could tumble!

I wanted to put up Onenightinvienna for the 4mNH chase but connections have decided a 7yo novice is going to win the Grand National and he’s not even entered at Cheltenham!! So it will have to be the next best thing!

LOCAL SHOW Ben Pauling is an exciting young trainer who having studied under Mr Henderson should know what it takes to get a Festival winner and this horse jumped beautifully when just holding off Onenightinvienna at Kempton over 3m. Here’s what the trainer had to say about the 8yo son of Oscar, “I am very pleased with this lad and he went up 13lb for winning at Newbury. His jumping has improved dramatically and we will look at a novice chase at the end of the month and then possibly the four miler at Cheltenham.”

Three points about the 2016 4m NH chase. Firstly we want to take on favourite Black Hercules who has been beaten in the Bumper and the Alfred Bartlett at the past two Festivals. Secondly Ratings. As the wonderful Mike Gault points out18 from last 24 win and place rated between 127 and 139.  But not the last four winners at 146, 150, 146 and 151 respectively.” Local Show is OR147ch. Thirdly Age. Again Mike Gault tells us “ Tricky Trickster 2009 the first 6 yr old to win since ‘there’s only one’ Boraceva in ’89.  13 from last 16 aged 7 or 8.“ That raise doubts over leading fancies Native River and Southfield River.

Local Show is a one star* win selection @ 16/1 for the 4mNH chase.
