#startracking Monday February 8th Fakenham 10.40am

Looks a fairly miserable day at Fakenham with high winds and showers, possibly heavy!

Going Report 6.44am @FakenhamRC is Soft (Good to Soft in places on the chase course). 3mm of rain overnight; strong winds today and showers (4-5mm).

1.45 ASTRUM should make Donald McCain’s trip from Cheshire worthwhile. Well handicapped, promising jockey and hopefully just a better horse than the two with recent Fakenham form, Lake Chapala and Vent Nivernais, of which I prefer the latter.

2.20 At first sight I thought this a very average card but this is a cracking C4 novice hurdle with some solid form on show. Can’t have recent Fakenham winner Prince of Steal, down in trip, up in class and under a penalty. Bingo D’Olivate has a jumping issue and Dalkadam from the in-form Jenkins yard could improve from his first run but I make it between the mare Hollies Pearl who won a Listed bumper last season and Dexcite for the powerful Tom George/Paddy Brennan combo who were only 16/1 to win the Grade 2 Greatwood Hurdle. I’ll side with DEXCITE.

2.50 Hard to oppose HALO MOON, in form, course and distance winner. Mind you it’s his third run in twelve days and they are nibbling at Fine parchment in the betting market, 8/1 into 6/1.

3.20 Trappy contest. French horse Daphligote could be anything on English debut, Tim Vaughan is badly out of form, Bishop Wulstan likewise but this is the worst race he has run in! Daliance has won two of his last five but I’ll go with the mare at the bottom of the weights, LEE SIDE LADY, for the professional pairing of Fehily & Mulholland.

3.50 I feel It’s Oscar, the favourite, could be vulnerable as he returns to fences. Second favourite On the case isn’t the safest conveyance either so let’s go for a couple of long priced front runners in the placepot in the shape of Mandys Boy and TOPTHORN.

4.20 The favourite Navanman is running for the second time in seven days and carries 12 stone plus including a penalty. IZBUSHKA is the obvious danger being a recent course and distance winner and could still be improving.

NAP                 DEXCITE (around 6/4)                Next Best        IZBUSHKA (around 5/1)

Placepot 8 x 50p = £4.00

Leg 1 – 1 & 4

Leg 2 – 4

Leg 3 – 1 & 3

Leg 4 – 7

Leg 5 – 1 & 2

Leg 6 – 5
