Two decent O’Brien 3yo’s finishing in preferred positions beating trees? So what did the verbose Ryan Moore have to say? “Be careful knocking the form I beat Nathaniel in this race on Treasure Beach. People knocked that form too, these are two good horses” and “I was probably too kind on him and he switched off. He didn’t know how to fight, he’ll learn plenty.” That is pretty bullish or something similar!

Chester 2.10 GABRIALS KAKA Last time out was a nightmare! “The first three home came from the back in a race that got very messy about 2F from home. Kaka spent much of the race in the box seat but Queally was caught out when the leader came back in his lap. He and a series of others were hampered and the chance was gone.” Prior to that he had hacked up at Chelmsford on the AW BUT in my Master Notes I have written “If he dropped down to a C3, at anywhere but Chester, he must go close. Not one to go overboard about.” Since beating two other Gabrial’s on debut, Kakas form at the Roudee is 55456883! Has to be opposed. Watching Brief.
Chester 3.10 DARTMOUTH Impressive winner of the G3 13½F John Porter, which was transferred from Newbury to Chelmsford, looked to have improved from three to four and looks a straightforward ride and should cope with Chester. He is todays best bet and a four star**** nap win selection @ 11/8 with PP.
Ascot 7.40 TABARRAK Hasn’t finished out of the first two in four starts to date but has only won once. Tip top form at Newmarket last time and I think he could be a Group horse in a handicap off OR97. My only doubt is whether his optimum trip may be a furlong shorter? I fancy him here and he is a three star*** win selection @ 5/2 general. Put him in your #startracker for next three runs.
Chester 2.10 GABRIALS KAKA (See Above)
Chester 3.45 POWERALLIED Owned by Dr Marwan Koukash. Interesting horse for a few reasons. Firstly, although always trained by Fahey the previous owners sent Powerallied to the sales and Fahey bought him back for Dr. K. Secondly he was very impressive when he won around the Roudee last September and followed up with an excellent 4th in a C2 back at Chester. Thirdly he finished the season off with a fine 8th in the Totepool 2yo Trophy @ Redcar. Drawn with just one outside probably scuppers his chances here but I’m pretty sure he will have Dr.K back in the winners enclosure at his favourite course this summer. Put him in your #startracker.
Chester 4.20 KHELMAN An “Only if…” horse. Only if .. 6F, C4, OR80 or less and preferably Hamilton. So despite Adam McNamara taking off 7lb and Khelman is drawn 1 it is very much a Watching Brief.
Chester 5.20 GABRIAL THE DUKE Has been busy on the AW and has plenty going for him here. McNamara takes off 5lbs in this apprentice race, GtT is drawn in stall 2, he has form at Chester and #FantasticMrFahey thinks “he certainly wouldn’t be without a chance.” The yard has got no closer than third with their nineteen runners on the first two days at Chester but they could finish with a winner. Gabrial the Terror is a one star* win selection @ 7/1 with Coral.
Keep an eye on Onda District who is a gelded son of Oasis Dream bought for £22K out of Stoute’s yard.
Chester 2.40 PLATITUDE Won on debut in a C5 7f maiden at Doncaster and soundly beaten in two Listed races. OR of just 97 and beaten into 5th on the AW in a C2 conditions race when last seen in September. Hardly the form to win the Listed Dee Stakes? So interesting that Stoute puts this son of Dansili, who should enjoy the step up to 10F, in here and at 14/1 with PP is worth a one star* win selection.
Ascot 6.30 ABINGDON Ballymacoll Stud homebred filly by Street Cry out of a Galileo mare. Already guaranteed her place in the paddocks and simply could be anything. Despite market support, 10/1 to 6/1, she is a Watching Brief.
Ascot 6.30 HADDAJAH Al Shaqab Racing paid £200K for this daughter of Sea The Stars. Another already guaranteed her place in the paddocks and simply could be anything. She is a Watching Brief.
Ascot 8.10 ROSTOVA Surely the most competitive and potentially informative race of the day and it is only a C4 straight mile handicap for 3yo’s! Eight of the twenty runners won last time and another six won two starts ago! Rostova is an American Juddmonte homebred by Arch out of a Sadler’s Wells mare. Fourth at Newmarket in a C4 7F maiden she won an October C5 7F fillies maiden at Salisbury on Soft ground. She goes handicapping off OR81 but has to be a Watching Brief.
