4:20 York – Chief Whip Ran a very encouraging third on his comeback at Sandown in what was probably a pretty good handicap. He races off the same mark here and the step back to 7f in this big field shouldn’t be a problem. Hopefully, being drawn 18 of 19 isn’t either – though I suspect it wll be – and he is clearly open to plenty of improvement. But so are most of the field in this race are, to be fair. Ryan Moore Betfair BlogA further two possible runners are also set to carry the famous blue silks of Godolphin after the organisation confirmed the purchases of both Dutch Connection and Home Of The Brave.

Analyst’s Verdict: “The Sandown maiden won by Chief Whip last year worked out very well, and the positives certainly outweighed the negatives when he was third on last month’s reappearance at that venue, so he is taken to confirm himself well treated. Typically for a 3-y-o handicap, any number are open to progress, with Castle Harbour and Constantino topping the list.” Timeform Free Shortlist May 11th
