Newmarket 6.15 POINT OF VIEW My Craven review said “. I liked Point of View for Roger Varian and I think with a bit more experience, 10F and better ground he should win sooner rather than later.” He has those conditions, the yard is starting to bang in the winners and despite being opposed in the market by Firnas for Godolphin/Appleby I make him a two star** win selection @ 7/4 general.
Newmarket 6.45 HIGHER POWER Fanshawe has his string in fine early form and this one needs the extra 2F. The trainer has ambitious plans for the horse “We had been looking forward to running HIGHER POWER and ARTHENUS both who have done particularly well over the winter..”. My notes from his last run over 10F at Haydock say “Slow to gather pace, last after a furlong. Travelled strongly but still last with 4F to run. Came wide, cruised into race. Better for run, further a plus.” Conditions look ideal for this strapping, gelded son of Rip van Winkle. He is a two star** win selection @ 9/4 with WH.
Newmarket 8.25 EDIFICATION This is a competitive 3yo 8F C4 handicap at HQ but I think the top weight could be really well handicapped, especially on his final run of last season splitting Cartago and Summer Icon at Yarmouth (both now rated OR90+) and Martyn Meade’s gelded son of Dream Ahead has the right conditions regarding ground, trip and grade and went well first time out as a 2yo but the big attraction is the price is too big. He is a one star* each way selection @ 20/1 general.

York 2.10 ARCTIC FEELING Arctic Feeling in a C2 5F handicap drawn 5 with Sammy Jo Bell taking off three pounds could be a player but I can never work this horse out, so I will pass!
York 3.45 THIRD TIME LUCKY Won the Cambridgeshire as a 3yo last season which is close to Group form but the vibes from Musley Bank are not positive for this improving grey son of Clodovil. #FantasticMrFahey to sportinglife.com “Third Time Lucky just took time to come to himself this spring but we’ve been pleased with him of late and he returns to action in the Betfred TV Hambleton Stakes. He capped a fine season last year by winning the Cambridgeshire and needs to step up on that here in a competitive race but it’s good to have him back in action.” Paul Hanagan will need to conjure a career best performance from TTL, well drawn in stall 7, he could probably do with a drop more rain. Watching Brief.
York 3.45 THORNTON Here’s a 2yo on debut I definitely want to keep an eye on, especially being a January foal. Mayson has made a strong start with his first crop of 2yo’s. #FantasticMrFahey to sportinglife.com “Thornton has his first start in the Stratford Place Stud Breeds Group Winners EBF Stallions Maiden Stakes. He’s a son of Mayson and is a horse we like. We’ll see what happens and how good the race is but we’re very pleased with everything he’s done at home.” He debuts over 6F in a race connections won with the well supported Parbold (10/3Fav) in 2013 so the market is of interest. Not a sniff in the market yet, put in @ 6/1, now 9/1 with Coral and 8/1 general. Close Watching Brief.
Newmarket 5.10 SPRINGWOOD Adam McNamara’s 7lb claim nullifies the 6lb penalty but a brave move taking on a C4 6F Newmarket 2yo contest. He stayed on well when winning at Pontefract. Watching Brief.
Newmarket 5.45 BELLE TRAVERS Here’s what I posted prior to her last run when sent off 15/8Fav she was a one paced fourth, “Put in as big as 6/1 last night she has halved in price to 11/4 tops. She won on debut as a 2yo but hasn’t won since in eight attempts. She has been beaten over this trip, in this grade and off this mark. She looks like another of those dodgy Fahey homebred fillies to me! Led out of the sales ring unsold at £95K so someone thinks she has talent! Pass.” My opinion hasn’t changed! Pass.
Newmarket 7.55 ZAHRAT NARJIS Here’s another I can’t have. Career record of 0 from 8 and beaten off this mark, in this grade and over this trip. Pass.
Newmarket 8.25 ZAINA RIZEENA Solid form in three runs as a 2yo and this daughter of Shamardal, a Rabbah Bloodstock home bred, goes handicapping off a mark of OR80. Third on debut, she won a C4 7½F maiden at Beverley before pulling too hard in an Ayr nursery and was last of six having been eased off. She looks a nice type but this is a hot C4 8F handicap at HQ. Watching Brief.

Salisbury 3.00 DUBKA De Rothschild homebred filly by Dubawi out of Rosika, OR100+ rated mare also trained by #SuperStoute. Ted Durcan rides and Dubka will probably need every yard of this 10F but she surely won’t be racing at C5 level for long. Watching Brief.
Salisbury 3.00 PLAYFUL SOUND Non runner (Ground-good to soft, soft in places.)
Salisbury 3.35 SHALL WE Homebred Niarchos Family filly by Dansili out of a Sadlers Wells mare. Promising hands and heels debut last November over 8F at Chelmsford, travelled well, outpaced top of straight, kept on and when only Khaleesy was too good. Opened her 3yo campaign up in grade and trip and was a strong second travelling well throughout the race and just failing to pick up the all the way leader, Rocaverde. This looks a very winnable opportunity and @ 6/4 general she is a two star** win selection.
Newmarket 6.15 MASTER GUNNER Owned by the Coolmore “lads”, Mrs John Magnier & Michael Tabor & Derrick Smith, he is a US bred War Front colt out of a Sadlers Wells mare. Just the one run as a 2yo when fifth at Yarmouth in a 6f maiden. He dwelt in the stalls, travelled well and was asked nothing in the final two furlongs under hands and heels. Typical #SuperStoute introduction for this powerful looking, scopey type. C4 10F 3yo maidens are never easy and I expect this race to be another step in Master Gunner’s education given by head teacher, Ryan Moore. Watching Brief.
Newmarket 7.20 DELVE One race as a 2yo for this homebred daughter of Dansili. Once again I expect this race to be another step in Delves’s education given by head teacher, Ryan Moore. Watching Brief.
Newmarket 7.55 PERCEY’S ROMANCE A homebred daughter of Sir Percy who has had three runs as a 2yo without pulling up any trees. Looks a trier not a winner and started off her handicap career in a C4 8F event at Leafy Lingfield off just OR73 finishing a one pace 6th. Despite Ryan Moore on board and they have taken all the 14/1 early, I am not impressed. Pass.
