Busy little Wednesday! #SuperStoute runs his first 2yo of the season, a couple of better than decent races at Chelmsford and #FantasticMrFahey has some real players at Ripon.
Managed to have done a few and will do the rest in the morning.
Chelmsford 7.40 MALMASOTA This is a big step up in class but she could be anything. “Marco Botti trained, she is a big, rangy sort who had one run at Newmarket at the back end of last season and on 3yo debut here came from last to first in Wolverhampton’s straight in the style of a decent sort.” Well worth a one star* win @ 10/1 general.
Ripon 7.00 CARNAGEO Can’t ask for much more really! C5, 8F, Good ground, 0-70 off OR68.
Has to be a two star** each way selection @ 10/1 with .
My notes say “Another purchase from the Arquana/Saint Cloud Breeze-ups he was given time to acclimatise and then had three runs in five weeks in October/November. None of them were anything special but now gelded he is a big, scopey son of Pivotal and looks sure to leave his present mark of OR70 well behind when growing into his frame and this handicapping project should be best around a mile with a bit of give in the ground. He runs for the Up For Anything Syndicate, which may well sum this horse up! Made his 3yo debut in a C5 7 1/2F handicap at Beverley. Was restless in the stalls just before the off, missed the break, slow to gather pace, last. Stayed on really strongly and my notes say “Winner waiting to happen at 8F”! Looks to be competitive in a C5 0-70 3yo classified stakes, the start will clearly be important. Next time out in a 7½F, 0-70, Soft ground Beverley C5 3yo handicap. Tony Hamilton rides and they are in stall 6 of 10. Looks about spot on. 3rd 11/2 Out better, pushed to get prominent, 2nd, asked 2½F out, too much too early.
Ripon 7.30 FLOWING CLARETS Made her seasonal reappearance in a C4 handicap at Ripon on Good to Soft ground. Drawn on inside, missed break by two lengths, still two lengths off the back at halfway, had to go five wide and flew home. Still green as grass but this daughter of Pastoral Pursuits is quick. 6F C4/C5 and has to win off OR75! Been put up 3lbs to OR78 but still worth a one star* win @ 7/2 general.
Ripon 8.00 GRANDADS WORLD My notes say “Get him down a pound and a 6/7F C3 (?-95) on a flat track should do the biz!” Well he is down to OR90, into C3, back up to 6F which is great but Ripon is NOT a flat track, it’s undulating rather like Newmarket and will GW take to it or not? However the price of 14/1 with Ladbrokes is enough to tempt me into a one star* each way wager.
These are all a Watching Brief.
Ripon 8.00 STEVE PRESCOTT Never keen to put up a Koukash horse but the good Doctor may have seen the light with this talented individual. Campaigned as a 2yo almost exclusively round Chester, a course that my notebook at least twice said didn’t suit the horse, he ran last season on more orthodox courses and showed a real liking for Newmarket, 6F and Good to Firm ground. Given those conditions and the handicapper relenting a couple of pounds, I can see him back in the winner’s enclosure.
Can see him needing this run and it would help to get down to OR90?
Ripon 7.30 MUSTIQUE Sorry it’s another home bred filly but it is at least Sir Robert Ogdens! Mustique had a smoother passage than stablemate Prying Pandora when they were 1-2 in a Ripon C5 6F maiden. On her only other outing as a 2yo Mustique beat just one home in the G3 Firth of Clyde at Ayr’s Western meeting. Yet to be given an Official Rating she is very much in the “could be anything” category.
Been given an OR79 which is workable but this is a competitive event to open your season in. Let us see if she has trained on and perhaps wait for a Fillies’ handicap.
