#startracking Wednesday June 1st 12.15pm

Ripon 8.00                              ECCLESTON Here is one of the horses David Armstrong has moved from #FantasticMrFahey. This one made the same move last season! My notes say “Could easily land one of these C2 6F sprints but probably not a big one. Ayr Bronze, Great St.Wilfred Consolation etc.etc. 18/05/16 Got dropped 1lb OR93”. Drops to C3, a grade he won twice at last season and over 6F has form of 81751, and is only 2lb above his last winning mark. However his form at Ripon is 5499 which makes me wonder if the courses undulations suit him. He is 11/2 second favourite which I think is too short so it’s a Watching Brief today.

Nottingham 4.00                   INTIMATION Non Runner

Nottingham 4.30                   ARISTOCLES My notes say “Stoute runs two in this 10F C5 maiden at Pontefract with Steve Donohoe partnering what the market sees as the second string. This homebred son of High Chaparrel out of a Selkirk mare will appreciate the trip, 12F, but hasn’t been put in either of his races to date. He will supposedly get a handicap mark after this his third run and that is where his future lies. OR68 66 Newmarket C5 10F+ on a Friday night?” Ryan Moore hasn’t hung around for this one before heading to Chelmsford, Jim Crowley takes the ride. However trip, ground and grade are all fine as is the price so Aristocles is a one star* win with Betfred and PP.

Chelmsford 7.10                     MUSDAM Musdam is a US bred son of Exchange Rate who cost Saeed Suhail £230K at the 2015 Guineas Breeze Ups. Didn’t see a racecourse at two but has done nothing but improve this season. Fine debut when 3rd to Dommersen and social media suggests he should have won his second race when Graham Gibbons got him beaten! Last time out he comfortably won his maiden and his opening handicap mark of OR82 could under estimate his talent. The surface shouldn’t be an issue and Steve Donohoe shouldn’t have any issues from stall 6 of 10. Musdam is a two star** win selection @ 10/3 with Betfred.

Chelmsford 7.40                     BARLEYSUGAR Ryan Moore’s first ride of the evening Barleysugar returns to racing her own sex after two placed efforts against male company for which she has gone up 5lbs. “Impressed when winning her maiden at Kempton. A mile on quick-ish turf will do nicely. OR86 90 (AW85 90)” Plenty going for her here and @ 6/1 general she is a one star* win selection. Persuasive for Gosden/Dettori could be a Group filly in a handicap but I can see that inside draw being an issue.

Chelmsford 8.10                     AUTOCRATIC This Cheveley Park son of Dubawi has run in two hot maidens the second of which he was a hands and heels staying on fourth to Imperial Aviator and Ulysses! Is he a handicapper or is he better than that? If the former this is his third run and another staying on fourth beckons but as a fan of stemming I think he could be the latter. I think this is the one Moore has come to ride and I make Autocratic a three star*** NAP win selection @ 2/1 general.

This weekend is the English and French Derby’s and to say Aiden O’Brien holds a strong hand is an understatement!! If he runs eight at Epsom then he hasn’t got an obvious superstar. Regular readers of this blog know I am a fan of Ulysses and I have seen nothing to change my mind. Of the Ballydoyle herd I could make a case for Idaho enjoying the trip and ground.

In France I have a sneaking fancy for Gosden, Dettori and Foundation as Johnny G has had this race as the target all along.
