Sandown 4.05 SHABBAH at 11/10 by WH so he is a three star*** win selection.
York 4.20 MAYFAIR LADY Watching Brief.
York 4.20 GIDDY The 9/1 with Lad’s + Betfred makes her a one star* e/w selection.
Chepstow 6.20 DUBKA Watching Brief.
Goodwood 8.25 COMMODITY Non Runner
York 2.35 LAURENCE Luca Cumani’s LAURENCE is a horse I’ve been tracking for a while with a Royal Ascot 10F handicap in mind. Non Runner at Newmarket recently when the rain came. Could have ideal conditions here in 10F, good or better ground and a win here off OR90 would put him smack on for Ascot. I expect further improvement as a 4yo from this son of Dubawi, trained the “Cumani” way. 8th on his comeback run, “fourth, travelled, keen, no cover, every chance 2½F out, flattened out”. Dropped 2lb OR90 88 and should come on for the run. Grade, trip and ground are all fine with Atzeni taking over from Queally in the saddle seen as a plus. Cumani’s string are in poor form, just 1 from 33 on turf this season, so just a one star* win @ 9/2 general.
Sandown 4.05 SHABBAH This Sea The Stars colt has had five weeks off but should still be too good for a C4 0-80 field. He could still be well ahead of the handicapper and has been put in at 11/10 by WH so he is a three star*** win selection.
Notes say “Beverley 3.50 SHABBAH If this was Sir Mark Prescott we would be all over it but surely Stoute is using the same plan? Three runs as a 2yo at 7/8F for a horse who will need 12F and he turns up as a 3yo in a C5 12F 0-70 handicap at Beverley off OR64 with Ryan Moore on board. Owned by same chap who has Nathra and he paid £200K for this son of Sea the Stars out of a dam who produced Ingleby Symphony who won off OR78 when trained by #FantasticMrFahey.
Bath 3.55 SHABBAH This race looks a harder option as its 10F not 12F and there are half a dozen in here with form. 9/4 is way too short, it has to be a Watching Brief. 1st 11/4Fav Oops! Travelled three wide, prominent. Led 4F out, lengthened and ran away from them. Progressive stayer. Needs Good ground +. Put in #startracker! Give him three runs.
Nottingham 7.50 Absolutely hacked up at Bath ten days and you don’t often see #SuperStoute put them out again under a penalty. However 4/6 top price in a handicap? No thank you. Watching Brief. 1st 1/2Fav Looks a proper horse! Led, pace lifted, 3F out, gone. Take a break and find a decent 10/12F race. OR64 70 79”
Chepstow 6.20 DUBKA Same grade but up another 2F which should suit. Certainly not being backed off the boards, need to see more, Watching Brief.
Notes say “DUBKA De Rothschild homebred filly by Dubawi out of Rosika, OR100+ rated mare also trained by #SuperStoute. Ted Durcan rides and Dubka will probably need every yard of this 10F but she surely won’t be racing at C5 level for long. Watching Brief. DUBKA 6th 14/1 RP Analysis “Went left start, held up towards rear, headway over 2f out, never threatened to reach leaders but ran on well final furlong (op 11/1)” 11L back to 7th and fair to say this filly can only improve.”
Goodwood 8.25 COMMODITY Had an educational introduction at the Craven meeting as a never competitive sixth with only the winner, Castle Harbour, advertising the form. The owners, Highclere Thoroughbreds, say on their website “This well marked horse is bred to be fast, but it would be no surprise if he was also able to stretch out and stay a mile given his scope. His dam Royale Danehill has a hundred percent strike rate of winners to runners and she is out of the marvellous race mare Royal Ballerina, who won six races including The Blandford Stakes (Gr 2) and was second in both the English and Irish Oaks.” Looks a longer term, possibly handicap, project to me, mind you he cost £190K! Non Runner
York 2.35 DARRINGTON Notes say “I’ll go Only If… he gets down to OR80 and possibly C4. OR82 81” They have got him down to OR80 and run him in a 0-95 C3 event at York. I hope it’s the owner’s decision! #FantasticMrFahey to sportinglife.com “Darrington runs in the 888sport.com Handicap and any rain would help him. He’s been running okay but looking like the handicapper has got him at the same time. He’s very fit and very well though and I wouldn’t draw a line through him, especially if there is a shower or two.” Watching Brief.
York 3.45 NUNO TRISTAN No idea what to make of him! Bought out of the William Jarvis yard at the turn of the year for £45K he has an OR90. He’s won a couple of times on the AW and run down the field in four 6F Newmarket handicaps C2 and C4. Now owned by Nick Bradley Racing (Middleham Park manager) who know the time of day. So he starts his turf career with #FantasticMrFahey in a C3 0-90 at York over 7F.
#FantasticMrFahey to sportinglife.com “Nuno Tristan is working very well ahead of the Jigsaw Sports Branding Handicap and we’re very happy with him. This is only his second run over seven furlongs and he has to give weight all round so clearly will need to at his very best but he goes there in top form.” Just has to be a Watching Brief.
York 4.20 MAYFAIR LADY Returns to the scene of her annihalation of a Nursery field last season albeit on much faster ground. Trainers comments don’t inspire confidence, Watching Brief.
#FantasticMrFahey to sportinglife.com “Mayfair Lady has taken an age to come to herself this year but is working well now and we’re happy with her. It’s a big ask to come here and try and win a handicap first time up off a mark of 100 but she’s very fit and very well. She’s not the biggest so there’s always a worry about whether they’ll train on but recent signs have been encouraging.”
York 4.20 GIDDY OR77 The connections and the handicap mark are the attractions. She’s a big girl and she’s quick and a flat 6F with a bit of room to manoeuvre is going to be right up her street. My notes contain the sentence “Taken out of Haydock yesterday because of Good to Firm”. Like the trainer I think she is well handicapped even here where she is 2lbs out of the handicap. The filly has only had four starts so there may be further improvement and with SammyJo Bell still on the side-lines lightweight Patrick Mathers, 0 from 15 for the yard this season, takes the ride at 8st 1lb. The 9/1 with Ladbrokes and Betfred makes her a one star* each way selection.
#FantasticMrFahey to sportinglife.com “Giddy who has been a little disappointing as I thought she was extremely well handicapped at the start of the season. She’s yet to win but has run some good races in defeat and we retain the faith. We’re running from 2lb out of the handicap which isn’t ideal but I’m happy to let her take her chance. She came to win the race at Chester the last day and didn’t do a lot wrong so I think she’ll run well again.“
York 2.00 RUBIESNPEARLS Watching Brief. #FantasticMrFahey to sportinglife.com “Rubiesnpearls in the Mel Brittain EBF Novice Stakes. She’s a daughter of Kyllachy who has taken a bit of time to come to herself but is ready to run now and we’ll see what happens.”
York 3.10 BALTIC BEAU Watching Brief.#FantasticMrFahey to sportinglife.com “Baltic Beau won well at Redcar first time and while he was a fraction disappointing at Ripon the next day, he’s only a young horse and we’re still learning about him. It’s at the back of my mind he’s another who may want softer ground so any rain would be a plus.”
York 3.10 MAJOR CORNWALLIS Middleham Park paid just £10K for this 2yo son of Dandy Man and he has already been gelded. I know we shouldn’t play but a decent pot (8K seller), a bullish trainer, Hanagan on board and a decent price makes him a two star** win selection @ 7/2 general.
#FantasticMrFahey to sportinglife.com Major Cornwallis ran okay at Haydock first time, I was pleased with him there, and he has definitely improved since. He has to have a chance here.”
