#startracking Wednesday June 15th 12noon

Royal Ascot can take your eye off the ball but #FantasticMrFahey has three at Ascot as well as lorries going to Hamilton and Ripon closer to home!

Ascot 2.30                   RIBCHESTER Prior to the 2000 Guineas I blogged “Fingers crossed for a great run but I think he is G2 at best. Watching Brief.” then after his excellent third. 3rd          33/1 “Probably stick with my original thoughts but a great run all the same. With Emotionless on the sidelines I think Ribchester will be carrying the Godolphin 3yo 8F G1 baton for a while. Tough gig!”  Well Emotionless was deemed fit enough to run in the queen Anne G1 over 8F so Ribchester drops a furlong and down to G3 for the Jersey stakes. The 5lb penalty will make life tough against a whole bunch of improvers but trip and ground will help. Love to see him win but has to be a Watching Brief. RF to Sportinglife.com “Ribchester is our first runner at Royal Ascot in the Jersey Stakes on Wednesday – and he’s one I’m really looking forward to. We’ve been extremely happy with him since the 2000 Guineas, he’s in great order and I couldn’t be more pleased with him. He won’t mind the ground, the trip is right and while he has a penalty and has to concede weight to some of these, he’s entitled to run very well. My only worry is the draw and whether there could be a bias but I couldn’t be happier with the horse going into it.”

Ascot 3.05                   KODOCALLA Love to see #FantasticMrFahey go close with Kocollada who was impressive at Musselburgh beating the colts. French, Irish and American contenders!! No idea! The Wesley Ward Lady Aurelia is meant to be a tad rapid. RF to Sportinglife.com Sportinglife.com She’s done nothing wrong and we’re very pleased with her. We know she’ll get the trip well and while the ground could be an issue, some Kodiacs seem to handle cut.”

Love to see her win but has to be a Watching Brief.

Ascot 3.05                   VONA Love to see #FantasticMrFahey go close with Vona who caused a bit of a surprise winning a Listed event at York! French, Irish and American contenders!! No idea! The Wesley Ward Lady Aurelia is meant to be a tad rapid. RF to Sportinglife.com “It didn’t look like a fluke when Vona won the Listed race at York the last day and she came home very well. We’re a little unsure over the going with her but she looks to have a bit of a soft ground action which offers hope.” Love to see her win but has to be a Watching Brief.

Hamilton 2.45            HEATONGRAD Just how many 2yo’s by Kodiac does #FantasticMrFahey have? This colt was 4th first time up on the Tapeta at Newcastle over 5F and steps up to 6F here. Should improve for the run but still a Watching Brief.

Hamilton 4.35            BILLY SLATER On his first run for a year he was fifth last time out with the RP Analysis saying “In rear, pushed along over 1f out, never able to trouble leaders (op 5/1)”. Prior to that run I had blogged “Very lightly raced 4yo owned by Dr. K that #FantasticMrFahey tells us “has had a few problems over the years and isn’t a good work horse at home so it’s hard to gauge where we are with him ahead of the Stellar Group Maiden Stakes. It’s a watching brief at this stage.” Personally at the start of last season I thought “A ?-80 8F 3yo handicap with a bit of cut in the ground would seem to fit the bill. SimpleSimonSays…Fahey 3yo’s April 16th 2015”. So today the trip, ground and probably the course are fine but 10st in a maiden, no. I have to agree with the boss, Watching Brief.”

Since then he has dropped two pounds OR81 79 and he has just the conditions I was looking for. Always the possibility he could bounce but he has to be a one star* each way selection @ 16/1 with WH.

Hamilton 5.10            L’APOGEE After his third run in a maiden I blogged “6th                16/1 As big as 40/1 earlier this was his third run and it looked like it! Tony Hamilton never got busy with him when he couldn’t get placed. This gelded son of Rip Van Winkle goes handicapping off just OR62! Wouldn’t be surprised if he steps straight up to a mile. Put in #startracker! Give him three runs.” He has now had two runs in handicaps finishing 6th over 8½F and 3rd over 10F both off OR62. He has been dropped two further pounds and off OR60 takes on the older horses in a C6 9F handicap over Hamilton’s stiff 9F. If he is going to win a race it has to be today! Last chance saloon, let’s roll the dice, two star** each way selection @ 10/1 general.

Ripon 6.30                  ROYAL CONNOISSEUR Another low grade win-in-his-turn sprinter and already on my “Run but without my money” list. Would put the tin hat on it if he gets beat here as it’s his first go in C6 on turf and he is 9lbs below his last winning mark! Still NotWithMyMoney!

Ripon 7.00                  ROSEBRIDE  A Cheveley Park daughter of Mayson who ran on well to be 2nd on debut. Favourite’s chance but 2yo’s remain a Watching Brief until I’ve done my homework next week.

Ripon 7.30                  BELLE TRAVERS I’ve blogged before “She won on debut as a 2yo but hasn’t won since in eight attempts. She has been beaten over this trip, in this grade and off this mark. She looks like another of those dodgy Fahey homebred fillies to me! Led out of the sales ring unsold at £95K so someone thinks she has talent!” Make that eleven attempts! My opinion hasn’t changed! NotWithMyMoney!

Ripon 8.00                  PADDY POWER Notebook says “Highly tried as a 2yo on the back of a fantastic piece of homework appearing on Twitter that saw him sent off 15/8F for a C2 event at Ascot. Taken his time to find his level which is probably C4 but looks to be still too high in the weights though has been more consistent of late. 3rd     9/1 Out OK, led 1F out, hung on for 3rd. Gets his mark down from OR90 to OR85, finishes 3rd and is back up a pound to OR86. Could he be a Chester horse? C3/4, 5F, decent draw, who knows?” Tries 6F on the Ripon roller coaster. Surprised he hasn’t put a claimer up. Too many if’s. Watching Brief.

Ripon 8.00                  FLOWING CLARETS Notebook says “Made her seasonal reappearance in a C4 handicap at Ripon on Good to Soft ground. Drawn on inside, missed break by two lengths, still two lengths off the back at halfway, had to go five wide and flew home. Still green as grass but this daughter of Pastoral Pursuits is quick. 6F C4/C5 and has to win off OR75!” I think she has enough in her favour here, trip, course, ground for a one star* win wager @ 7/1 general and her better fancied stablemate Paddy Power might tee it up for her!

Ripon 8.30                  EISHA FLOWER Money about for this US bred daughter of Distorted Humour for whom Nick Bradley Racing paid £100K at the Guineas Breeze Ups! Close Watching Brief.

Hamilton 7.30            ALL ABOUT TIME I’ve liked this filly since her 2yo days and I think she’s a cracking bet here even with 10st on her back She has winning course and distance form, she is in the right grade and her main rivals are Belle Travers (see above), the favourite Ed Dunlop’s Shafafya who hasn’t won in five but gone up the weights and Ninetta struggles to stay 10F. Two star** win @ an excellent 4/1 with PP.
