#FantasticMrFahey had three winners from his 25 runners on Saturday. Pleased to see Gabrial get his head back in front as he continues to rack up the earnings! Powerallied (9/2 into 15/8!) was a certainty once Franny Norton pinged him out of a low stall and travelled in the third place box seat. Powerallied could possibly win a 6F C2 at Chester, low draw, bit of cut and a slice of luck. Growl was a surprise as he had given no indication he would act on Soft ground but he is in fine fettle galloping all over this field and there is talk of stepping up to 7F for the Bunbury Cup?
The Musley Bank maestro runs eleven today.
Three are 2yo’s.
Pontefract 2.35 SCOFFLAW £60K purchase at Tatt’s Book 2. Son of promising Australian sire Foxwedge. Despite being friendless in the market on debut in a 6F C4 Chester maiden he scooted in at 20/1 with my notes saying “Looks OK. Out OK, travelled, challenged inside final furlong, professional.” Steps up to C2 for this conditions race but there are only four runners. Least fancied this morning of the three at the head of the market and I was sufficiently impressed on his debut to make him a two star** selection @ 2/1 with Betfred.
Musselburgh 6.40 HEATONGRAD 65K euros son of Kodiac who could appreciate the trip up to 7F. Looks like one for nurseries further down the line. Watching Brief.
Musselburgh 7.40 SAMRAN SAYS Another in the yard owned by a Nick Bradley syndicate. Disappointing to see this £24K daughter of Dark Angel drop to C5 selling company on only her third start. Watching Brief.
Three are in the “NotWithMyMoney” category
Pontefract 2.00 BELLE TRAVERS Here’s what I posted prior to her penultimate run when sent off 15/8Fav and she was a one paced fourth, “Put in as big as 6/1 last night she has halved in price to 11/4 tops. She won on debut as a 2yo but hasn’t won since in eight attempts. She has been beaten over this trip, in this grade and off this mark. She looks like another of those dodgy Fahey homebred fillies to me! Led out of the sales ring unsold at £95K so someone thinks she has talent! Pass.” My opinion hasn’t changed!” Pass. 11th 8/1 No surprise there then! OR74 73
Musselburgh 8.40 PUSHKIN MUSEUM Low grade regressive sprinter. Since the start of the 2014 turf season his mark has come down fourteen pounds OR82 68 as he has won once in fourteen runs. C5 is fine but Soft in the going won’t help. An honest trier who has forgotten how to win.
Musselburgh 9.10 FRAP With a silent C! Think Dr. K has bought a rabbit here and I’m sure I can hear the Hannons chuckling. Either never quite gets there or weakens in final furlong if he does! NWMM. Having said that OR58 is heading to a plater’s mark! Despite Rachel Richardson performing miracles to get him home in a C5 8F handicap at Carlisle I am still quite happy to let him go unbacked! OR58 62 Watching Brief.
The other fiveare of interest to varying degrees…
Wolverhampton 2.15 SHOWBIZZY Catches the eye with the booking of Jamie Spencer. Failed to win in four races as a 2yo although was sent off favourite for a C5 nursery at Windsor on the last of them. This daughter of Showcasing goes 3yo handicapping off OR65 in a C5 5F sprint on the Tapeta. No idea. No show in two starts this season, no morning money, steps up a furlong, has to be a Watching Brief.
Pontefract 3.40 ZAINA RIZEENA Solid form in three runs as a 2yo and this daughter of Shamardal, a Rabbah Bloodstock home bred, goes handicapping off a mark of OR80. Third on debut, she won a C4 7½F maiden at Beverley before pulling too hard in an Ayr nursery and was last of six having been eased off. She looks a nice type but this is a hot C4 8F handicap at HQ. Finished 7th at Nemarket, then 6th at Carlisle when dropping to 7F. Goes up a Grade to C3 here and reverts to sprinting. Bonus having Hanagan on board and a moderate draw in 7. Mark has slipped OR80 74 but too many question marks. Watching Brief.
Pontefract 5.10 ENERGIA FLAVIO Owned by Dr Marwan Koukash. Won twice in his native Brazil and even finished 8th in their 2000 Guineas but hasn’t won in sixteen starts in this country and his mark has dropped from OR100 to OR79. Now there’s interesting!
OR7977 Although he continues to slide down the handicap and this was a more promising run, he doesn’t have a preferred trip and he has to be Only If… Wolverhampton C4, probably 8½F and even then only to small stakes! Hasn’t won in 24 starts in the UK and his mark has come down 25lbs. OR100 75 Has to be a Watching Brief.
Musselburgh 7.10 GABRIAL THE TERROR My notes say “At Wolverhampton, 12F+ on the Tapeta, yes. On the Turf, no.” This time last year he was competing in C3 events off OR81, this is a C6 handicap off OR65 with Adam MacNamara taking 7lbs off! Drawn 12 doesn’t help and the ground could be quicker but the 11/1 is very tempting! But has to be Watching Brief.
Musselburgh 8.10 DESIRE Two runs ago I blogged ”Daughter of Kylachhy has won over this trip in this grade off just 2lb lower and Adam MacNamara takes off 7lb. Races prominently, won making all, drawn in stall 1, why not?” #FantasticMrFahey told sportinglife.com “Desire runs in the racinguk.com Handicap at Musselburgh and was entitled to need her first run back at Hamilton. She’s well drawn in one here has the ability to run a big race.” She kept on well for second without troubling the winner and has since finished midfield on the Soft at Chester. Back at Musselburgh over the same 7F, she goes up a grade and up 2lbs but is well housed in 4. The more the ground dries out the better and she is worth a one star* win wager @ 8/1 with Ladbrokes.
