Esher is the place to be tonight where we are hoping for two winners. Mind you the Leicester 7.50 is quite exciting as #FantasticMrFahey gives a debut to Cheveley Park home bred Frankel colt, Senator, and if he has anywhere the talent of the yards Queen Kindly he should be alright. Market moves will be interesting.
Sandown 7.00 ELUCIDATION Niarchos Family homebred by Oasis Dream drawn in the Car Park on debut! Watching Brief.
Sandown 7.35 SKY SHIP #SuperStoute trains this son of Ravens Pass for Lady Rothschild. Won his C5 maiden at Wolverhampton but looks a little high in the handicap for what he has achieved so far OR 81, even if his 5th to Manson over C&D just behind Defrocked is useful. Probably needs to strengthen up and seems to be screaming out for 10F. Watching Brief.
Sandown 7.35 WAR STORY Really needs to nail this 0-90 8F C3 handicap. Two star** win selection @ 5/1 with BetFred and WH. Here’s why.
Notebook says “Came to my attention when giving a hiding to a #SuperStoute filly, Aristocratic, I fancied at Chelmsford. OR85 could seriously underestimate his talent. Ears prick up when Cumani is asking about a handicap mark! Luca Cumani Website 26th April “We have liked War Story for a while and it will be interesting to see what handicap mark he is given.”
OR85 First run on turf at Newmarket over 8F on Good to Firm ground over a mile C3 saw him lead in The Dip but not get home. 6th 4/1 OR85 Next time out same grade at Sandown over a furlong shorter, despite showing signs of greenness, he finished strongly and was beaten just a head and half a length and goes up a pound . OR85 86 Next run back at Sandown and he couldn’t quite peg back inspired 16/1 front runner Bobby Wheeler. Up another three pounds OR 86 89 His astute trainer will place him shrewdly and this could win a big race at nice price before the season ends.” Currently friendless in the market!
Sandown 8.40 YANGTZE Surely has his ideal conditions here 14F 3yo C4 handicap off OR 76 with first time cheekpieces. Surely Andrea Atzeni’s booking is a positive. Lack of obvious pace is worrying but still a three star** win selection @ 5/4 general.
Notes – In that ridiculous maiden at Leicester when Ulysses was second to Imperial Aviator with Ulysses second and UAE Prince back in third Stoutes other pair Yangtze and Autocratic both kept on well without ever being competitive in 4th and 5th. Yangtze made his handicap debut OR71 over 10F in a C3 event won by Primitivo, who went on to win the Duke of Edingburgh at Royal Ascot. Yangtze travelled well, outpaced 3F out but kept on strongly in the final furlong for 3rd. Put up 2lbs to OR73 and prior to his next run in the C3 12½F Edingburgh Cup at Musselburgh I blogged “Ran on in eye-catching fashion in his last run. Well weighted, obvious improver and #SuperStoute sends one horse to Scotland, well drawn in 3, Stevie Donohoe rides.” Again he ran on late having dwelt at the start and was out of his ground when the race took shape. Put up another pound to OR74. A 12F+ C3+ handicap is his for the taking if ridden more prominently or piloted by the unequalled Ryan Moore!
Right, time to study the BetFred Mile on Friday!
